RS 2023-2024 Rotation Application Logo
  • Below is the application to be a Resident Scholar with the Advocacy Division of the American Society of Anesthesiologists® (ASA) in the Washington, DC office for the 2023-2024 rotation cycle.

The deadline for submitting your application for the 2023-2024 rotation cycle is 11:59 pm ET on February 13, 2023. Submissions past this time will not be considered. You will receive confirmation that your application was submitted.

For more information on the Resident Scholar program, please visit asahq.org/ResidentScholar or contact Silvana Barbosa, ASA Grassroots Program Administrator, at s.barbosa@asahq.org or (202) 289-2222.

Eligibility: According to the May 5, 2010 ABA Memo: "The ABA provided an overall 'blanket' approval of the elective as presented as long as programs / trainees comply with the requirements previously utilized by the ABA and RCC for other 'outsider' rotations (i.e., not to occur during the CA-1 or final 3 months of the CA-3 year and satisfactory CCC reports)." Applicants who will be in their PGY-4/CA-3 year and fellows during the 2023-2024 academic year may apply. Applicants who wish to serve during the last three months of their third year of residency will require additional approval from the ABA to participate.

Due to overwhelming interest in the program, applicants who will be PGY-3/CA-2 are no longer eligible to apply. These applicants are encouraged to apply the next application cycle. Upon acceptance into the program, ASA will notify individuals for whom we require additional ABA approval, if applicable.

  • Supplemental Materials

  • Below, please submit the following supplemental materials. Unless otherwise stated, these materials are required to be considered.

We need a Cover Letter / Letter of Interest, detailing why you think you are the perfect candidate to be a Resident Scholar. Think of this as your application essay; A Curriculum Vitae / Resume of your experience; and A Letter of Endorsement / Support from your Residency Program Director. Note that this letter need only be an official approval, but it is encouraged to include a full letter of recommendation, if possible. We understand there can sometimes be a delay in receiving your letter, so attaching it is not required to submit your application. If you desire, you can submit your application without the letter, so long as we receive it before the deadline. But it is preferred you submit your application here, online, when you have all the constituent parts. Submittals in .pdf or .docx file formats would be appreciated. Of course, if this process does not work, or if you prefer, feel free to email these materials to s.barbosa@asahq.org.
